The exhibition is on a the Boutwell Draper Gallery in Sydney www.boutwelldrapergallery.com.au
The project, supported by the Australian Institute of Architects and the Faculty of Architecture Design and Planning at the University of Sydney, is entitled After Images (Zan Zou in Japanese), and will consist of a collection of sketches made by Australian architects and academics, capturing an impression of the rich architecture and culture of ancient and contemporary Japan, or documenting a design which was informed by an experience of Japanese architecture. The understanding of sketch is conceptually expanded beyond pen or pencil drawings on a page to encompass photographs, collages, water-colours or poems, all of which suggest immediate, unmediated impressions that are unfinished.
The exhibition of the sketches will be held at the Boutwell Draper Gallery in Sydney (www.boutwelldrapergallery.com.au) as part of the gallery’s ongoing Art + Architecture series from Tuesday 25th October to Saturday the 29th October, with the auction event on the Friday evening.
The money that is raised through the auction itself and from sales of the catalogue will be collected by Emergency Architecture Australia in the first instance, who will then liase with a Japanese architectural aid organisation operating locally on the ground to support recovery efforts in Tohoku and Northern Kanto regions of Japan.
